🏠🇺🇸 WELCOME HOME: THE GARY AND EUNICE MARIS VETERANS We were honored to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the Gary and Eunice Maris Veterans House, which will provide transitional housing and supportive services for up to five veterans who have experienced homelessness. The home carries a legacy deeply connected to our organization. Gary Maris was a founding leader of the Neighborhood Center, a Vietnam-era U.S. Army captain, longtime board member, and devoted volunteer. His wife, Eunice, also supported the Neighborhood Center’s early work serving local children and families. Shortly before Gary passed away, he shared his excitement about purchasing this property and expanding housing during our community’s affordable housing crisis. It is an honor to carry their legacy forward through this home. This project was made possible by an extraordinary group of community partners:❤️ Big Nova Foundation provided critical funding for the purchase and renovation.❤️ Sonni Stover Wimer, Realtor guided us through the purchase and donated her real estate services, while Watt Ramsey and Integrity Home Inspections donated the property inspection.❤️ CareerSource Brevard Flagler Volusia provided hurricane-recovery funding and on-the-job training opportunities. Special thanks to Ashley Zieman, Steve Howard, and Trish McGetrick Stockman for developing the program, Mark Bruner for supervising the renovation and training, and the CareerSource team members whose hard work transformed this house.❤️ First Congregational Church of Orange City contributed $50,000, while the Community Foundation and United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties provided Community Impact Cabinet funding to provide services to the veterans.❤️ Military Officers Association of America–West Volusia Chapter and individual donors provided additional support for the home and the veterans who will live there.❤️ The Garden Club of DeLand beautified the property, and our generous Amazon Wishlist donors provided household essentials to make it feel like home.We are deeply grateful to our board members, staff, volunteers, donors, and everyone who attended the ribbon cutting or helped bring this vision to life.Because of you, five veterans will have a safe place to heal, rebuild, and take their next steps toward permanent housing. ...
