The shortest commute to making a difference is just to your mailbox. 📬✨Life is busy, but helping a neighbor shouldn't be. On Saturday, May 9, you don’t have to sign up for a shift or drive to a donation center. You can fight local hunger from your own front porch. As we head into summer, our local food pantries face a "perfect storm." Demand spikes by nearly 20% when school meal programs end, yet donations typically drop to their lowest levels of the year. We need to stock the shelves now to prepare for the months ahead.Your 30-second "To-Do" list: Shop: Grab an extra jar of peanut butter, a box of cereal, or canned tuna (no glass). Bag: Put them in a sturdy bag. Set: Place it by your mailbox before your mail arrives on May 9.Your letter carrier handles the heavy lifting, and your donation stays right here in West Volusia to support families and seniors through the Salvation Army and our local pantry. One bag might seem small, but when an entire neighborhood participates, it’s life-changing. Let's Stamp Out Hunger together! 💛#StampOutHunger #NALCFoodDrive #EasyGiving #FeedWestVolusia #SummerHungerGap #CommunityKindness ... See MoreSee Less

Help Us Close the "Summer Hunger Gap" on May 9! 📬🧡As summer approaches, many families in our community face a difficult reality. While school is in session, thousands of local children rely on free or reduced-price meals. But when school lets out, those meals disappear. The Reality for West Volusia:1 in 5 children in Volusia County live in households facing food insecurity.Fewer than 10% of Florida children who receive free school lunches can access similar meal programs during the summer.Nearly 800,000 children across Florida are estimated to lack sufficient food when school is out of session. On Saturday, May 9, your mailbox is the easiest way to help. Just place a bag of nonperishable food (no glass) by your mailbox before your mail is delivered. Your letter carrier will do the rest!Every can of soup or box of pasta stays local, stocking local pantries at the Neighborhood Center of West Volusia and Salvation Army to ensure no child goes hungry this summer.#StampOutHunger #NALCFoodDrive #FeedWestVolusia #EndSummerHunger #CommunityStrong ... Celebrating impact, sustainability, and student leadership this Earth Day 🌎💚Today we were excited to attend the Stetson University Community Engagement End of Year Banquet where Hatters Closet and Darbi Robbins were recognized as recipients of the “Meeting the Mission Award”! As the founder of Hatters Closet, Darbi has created a powerful movement promoting eco-friendly practices through thrifting events and clothing donation drives.Throughout the school year, this dedicated student group collects clothing and hosts an annual spring thrift event, turning generosity into action. Over the past two years, they’ve donated more than $2,200 to support individuals experiencing homelessness in our community. This recognition is especially meaningful on Earth Day, as it highlights how caring for our planet and caring for people can go hand in hand. 🌱♻️Thank you, Darbi and Hatters Closet, for making an incredible impact on our community! @stetsonu ...
