The Neighborhood Center’s mission is to feed the hungry, house the homeless, and prevent homelessness.
The Neighborhood Center was founded in 1969 to help the hungry and homeless, with the initial purchase of an old house on Woodland Boulevard in DeLand, Florida.
Over the years, the agency has expanded services and programs to meet the increased needs of the community.
The critical prevention component includes a Food Pantry that distributes food, hygiene products, diapers, baby food and formula, and pet food. Financial support for rent and utilities is also provided to those who qualify.
The housing program is a fee-for-service program, and clients meet with a caseworker weekly to discuss exit plans.
NHCWV provides transitional and permanent housing for men, women, and families. The housing department serves over 150 individuals residing in 118 units. Case managers work with residents towards individual service goals for employment and promoting a safe environment.
The Bridge opened in September 2020 and is a City of DeLand-owned and funded entity.
The Neighborhood Center operates The Bridge, and it was developed in partnership with a local coalition that includes businesses, government, other non-profits, and faith-based organizations.
The Bridge provides homeless adults with lodging and support services such as meals, laundry, showers, health care access, linkage to housing, recreational activities, benefits assistance, and case management.
The Bridge and NHCWV activities are closely integrated and aligned to provide a full spectrum of flexible and responsive services while ensuring seamless client-centered care.
Clients are encouraged to attend Bible study, AA, NA, and other support meetings held on campus.
The Bridge contributes to the well-being of the homeless community by providing a range of services, including shelter, meals, health care access, and support for finding permanent housing.
