What is the mission of The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia?

The Neighborhood Center’s  mission is to feed the hungry, house the homeless, and prevent homelessness.

When and why was the NHCWV founded?

The Neighborhood Center was founded in 1969 to help the hungry and homeless, with the initial purchase of an old house on Woodland Boulevard in DeLand, Florida.

What services and programs has the NHCWV expanded over the years?

Over the years, the agency has expanded services and programs to meet the increased needs of the community.

What are the critical prevention services offered by NHCWV?

The critical prevention component includes a Food Pantry that distributes food, hygiene products, diapers, baby food and formula, and pet food. Financial support for rent and utilities is also provided to those who qualify.

What is the fee structure for the housing program, and how often do clients meet with caseworkers?

The housing program is a fee-for-service program, and clients meet with a caseworker weekly to discuss exit plans.

How does NHCWV contribute to housing services for individuals and families?

NHCWV provides transitional and permanent housing for men, women, and families. The housing department serves over 150 individuals residing in 118 units. Case managers work with residents towards individual service goals for employment and promoting a safe environment.

Are accomodations available for the deaf and hard of hearing?

Yes, services for the deaf and hard of hearing are available for those in need. Appropriate auxiliary aids and services are available at no cost to clients who are deaf or hard of hearing and may be obtained by request.

When did The Bridge open, and who owns and funds it?

The Bridge opened in September 2020 and is a City of DeLand-owned and funded entity.

Who operates The Bridge, and in what partnership was it developed?

The Neighborhood Center operates The Bridge, and it was developed in partnership with a local coalition that includes businesses, government, other non-profits, and faith-based organizations.

What services does The Bridge provide to homeless adults?

The Bridge provides homeless adults with lodging and support services such as meals, laundry, showers, health care access, linkage to housing, recreational activities, benefits assistance, and case management.

How are The Bridge and NHCWV activities integrated to provide services?

The Bridge and NHCWV activities are closely integrated and aligned to provide a full spectrum of flexible and responsive services while ensuring seamless client-centered care.

What additional activities are clients encouraged to participate in on campus?

Clients are encouraged to attend Bible study, AA, NA, and other support meetings held on campus.

How does The Bridge contribute to the homeless community’s well-being through its services?

The Bridge contributes to the well-being of the homeless community by providing a range of services, including shelter, meals, health care access, and support for finding permanent housing.

Thrift Store FAQ’S

When did the Neighborhood Center’s Thrift Store relocate, and what is the new address?

The Neighborhood Center’s Thrift Store relocated in October 2022 to 550 South Spring Garden Ave., DeLand.

Besides selling furniture, clothing, and household items, what additional role does the Thrift Store play in supporting center clients?

The Thrift Store plays a crucial role in supporting center clients by offering vouchers that can be redeemed for clothing and furniture, ensuring that those in need have access to essential items.

Until what time are daily donations welcome at the Thrift Store?

Daily donations are welcome until 3:00 PM at the Thrift Store.

How can individuals arrange for the pick-up of larger items for donation, and until what time is this service available?

For larger items, a convenient pick-up service is available by appointment. Individuals can call 386-734-8120 EXT 201 to arrange for pick-up.

What are the operating hours of the Neighborhood Center’s Thrift Store on weekdays?

The Thrift Store is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

What are the operating hours of the Thrift Store on Saturdays?

On Saturdays, the Thrift Store is open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

🥶 Extreme Cold Weather Update 🥶Temperatures are expected to drop below 25 degrees tonight, making this the coldest night of the year.At the Bridge shelter, our team is currently caring for 44 guests in our cold weather shelter.
